Alexandre Kawano graduated in Naval Engineering from Escola Politecnica of the University of Sao Paulo. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics (2007, IME-University of Sao Paulo, Brazil) and a Dr. Eng. degree obtained from Yokohama National University (Japan) in 1995. He served as an Assistant Professor at the University of São Paulo in the department of Civil Construction Engineering, Escola Politecnica, until 2002. In 2012, he obtained his Habilitation degree ("Livre-Docência") from the University of São Paulo, department of Mechanical Engineering. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Escola Politécnica, in the department of Mechatronics Engineering. He was a lecturer at Yokohama University (Japan) for a year and a half and a visiting professor at the École Centrale in Lyon (France) on five occasions. He serves as the coordinator of academic and scientific cooperation agreements with the Graduate School of Engineering Science at the University of Osaka (Japan) and the Dipartimento Politecnico di Ingegneria e Architettura dellUniversità degli Studi di Udine (Italy). Within the School of Engineering, Escola Politecnica, he has been a member of all permanent committees: Undergraduate, Graduate, Research, Culture and Extension, as well as the Basic Cycle, Library and the Inclusion and Belonging Committees. He has taught a variety of courses, with a particular focus on the first two years of the Engineering course, including subjects such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Mechanics, Numerical Analysis, Graphical Representation, Probability, Dynamical Systems, Computational Mechanics, Mechanics of Solids, Machine Elements, Electric Machines, Design of Mechanical Systems, among others. He is part of the Editorial Board of the USP Open Books Portal and serves on the Scientific Committee of the USP Journals Portal. Both, Board and Committee, are affiliated to the USP Library and Digital Collections Agency, which is connected to the Universitys Rectorate. His work primarily focuses on Mathematical Inverse Problems applied to the solution of Engineering problems. He maintains strong international connections with researchers from France, Italy, Turkey, and Japan, collaborating on scientific papers.
